WECP Space
The WECP features large classrooms with natural light, bathrooms, child-height sinks, and adjacent observation rooms equipped with sound. In addition to the classroom space, WECP has several other facilities:
- Gym
- When it's too cold or hot outside, WECP children are able to play in the gym, a large indoor play space with areas for “wheels” (trikes, scooters, and ride-on toys); tumbling, jumping and climbing; and ball activities. The gym is also the place where family potlucks are held, all-school events take place, and our Music & Movement Program occurs.
- Kitchen
- The WECP provides two nutritious snacks—morning and afternoon—typically consisting of a fruit or vegetable, a dairy product, a whole grain product and milk. A notebook in the kitchen lists the nutritional values of our snack foods and is available for review; a Weekly Snack Menu is posted in the kitchen. Families provide lunches, which may be refrigerated in the kitchen; classrooms also have small refrigerators, as well as microwave ovens to heat up lunch items when needed. Since the kitchen is fullāsized, it is available for classroom cooking activities.
- Observation Rooms
- Adjacent to each classroom and the gym, the observation rooms allow families to see and hear what is happening in their child's classroom. Other users of the observation rooms include student teacher supervisors, visitors to our program, and university students completing observation assignments for their coursework.
- Small Group Rooms
- There are three additional rooms at WECP that are used for small group or individual activities. These include a library and two therapy rooms used by our therapists, visiting therapists, and individual classrooms for small group activities. We also have a sensory room, where children needing a break from the classroom activity may go with a teacher.
- Teacher Resource Areas
- WECP Staff have office space in the middle of the program area. This allows them to have a place to meet weekly as a team, with student teachers and with families. They also are able to have their personal resources on site. In addition, there is a staff resource room equipped with computers and printers, which facilitates their work on lesson plans, portfolios (the individual records we create for families that document each child's developmental progress), and Developmental Plans.
