Promising Practices

Students with intellectual disabilities can be successful in college when supports are in place. This promising practices inventory, for students, families, K-12 teachers, and higher education instructors, shares ways students can gain self-determination skills and thrive in the college environment.

The inventory focuses on the four important areas:

Educators meeting
  1. Suggestions for strengthening self-determination skills and family advocacy;

  2. Methods to promote academic success in the classroom;

  3. Ideas for social involvement and integration across campus;

  4. Strategies for vocational planning and employment.
